HLM Fellows will engage in one-on-one sessions with key ED leaders for core administrative content, participate in ED leadership meetings and committees, lead quality improvement initiatives, educate residents and students, establish mentoring relationships, pursue administrative scholarship, and complete a capstone fellowship project. HLM Fellows divide their time between administrative projects, research, meetings, didactics/classes, and clinical shifts at Weill-Cornell Medical Center and Lower Manhattan Hospital. HLM fellows are considered faculty members of the Weill-Cornell School of Medicine.

Core Content with ED and NYP Hospital Leadership
HLM Fellows will be asked to actively participate in administrative and leadership meetings at both the departmental and hospital level. In addition, fellows will have monthly meetings with core leadership to receive one-on-one instruction and day-in-the-life experiences in the below topics. Find more information on the Core Content
here.
Clinical Experience
HLM Fellows will work the equivalent of 20 clinical hours per week and have opportunities to moonlight in the Weill Cornell and Lower Manhattan Emergency Departments. As ED faculty, HLM Fellows will supervise residents and advanced practice providers in clinical areas. Clinical shifts for the HLM Fellows will be structured to accommodate the required Executive MBA/MS courses and corresponding requirements.
Mentoring and Teaching Opportunities
HLM Fellows will act as teaching faculty for the HLM Scholars Program for Weill-Cornell medical students and the Academic Practice Track (APT) in Administration for the NYP Emergency Medicine residents. The HLM Scholars Program is an intensive summer immersion program for Weill-Cornell medical students to learn leadership and management skills and experiences early in their training. The Administration APT is a longitudinal learning experience for PGY 1-4 emergency medicine residents with a distinct interest in administrative careers.
Career Development with Executives
HLM Fellows will have opportunity to meet one-on-one with several executives from Weill Cornell Medicine and New York Presbyterian. These career development conversations are crucial for professional growth and provide HLM Fellows with a mental framework for their future careers in healthcare leadership and management.
Capstone Project
HLM Fellows will lead and present an ED administrative project during the latter portion of the fellowship. The capstone project is designed based on the unique interests of the HLM Fellow, their career goals, and the needs of the NYP Hospital and Department of Emergency Medicine.
Scholarship
HLM Fellows will be expected to publish, write, or speak about their capstone projects or administrative experiences at the local or national levels. Examples include writing an opinion piece for a professional media source, publishing an operational study in a professional journal, or lecturing at a residency conference.
The Executive MBA/MS in Healthcare Leadership
Two-year HLM Fellows will fully integrate as EMBA/MS graduate students in the Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business. This fully-funded degree experience will provide professional networking and unparalleled exposure to experts in their respective healthcare leadership disciplines.
