The Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants (SEMPA) has named Matthew Laghezza, chief emergency medicine PA, as its 2018 Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) of the Year. The award was presented on April 17, 2019 at SEMPA’s annual conference in New Orleans.
The SEMPA award recognizes physician assistants who demonstrate exceptional service and/or leadership in emergency medicine, the emergency medicine physician assistant profession and/or the community as it relates to emergency medicine.
Laghezza is the chief PA at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medicine and one of 10 ambassadors for the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Additionally, he has been a course director for several PA educational conferences and is extensively involved in several leadership roles in the emergency department at NYP-WCM.
He is known for his ability to motivate others, engender respect for the PA profession, and foster professional growth among the emergency medicine PA staff.
