Dr. Rahul Sharma, Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been elected to serve as the next Full-time Faculty Representative to the Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) Board of Fellows. He succeeds Dr. Silvia Formenti, Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and will serve a three-year term beginning July 1.
The WCM Board of Fellows is responsible for the general supervision of the programs and operations of the Medical College and Graduate School. Among other responsibilities, the Board oversees academic, financial and other program planning, approves domestic and global affiliations, oversees all clinical, research and administrative facilities, and approves faculty appointments to tenure and endowed professorships.
This year, the Board introduced a new selection process with the goal of engaging faculty from across the institution, both as potential candidates and to weigh in during the review process. Dr. Sharma was selected from a strong and competitive pool of faculty members for the role.
As the Full-time Faculty (FTF) Representative, Dr. Sharma will act as a liaison between the Board and the entire Faculty. He will attend and regularly present at Board meetings, and will provide the faculty’s perspective on important institutional topics.
“Dr. Sharma has worked closely with both WCM and NYP leadership in developing Emergency Medicine from a division to a department and in guiding our two institutions in the successful implementation of telehealth initiatives,” said Dean Augustine Choi, MD in an announcement to the WCM faculty. “His perspective as a clinical leader and technology innovator will be a great resource to the Board, and I am confident that he will also serve as an outstanding liaison between the faculty and the Board.”
