NewYork Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine is the winner of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) inaugural 2019 ACEP Wellness Week Departmental Challenge.
The Challenge seeks to highlight exceptional Emergency Departments across the United States for their promotion and elevation of wellness at the organizational level.
ACEP’s selection committee cited Emergency Medicine Department’s “outstanding commitment to wellness for emergency physicians and other healthcare professionals within [the] Department.”
NYP/WCM Emergency Department launched its Faculty Wellness program in August, 2016. The program aims to foster a culture of health and wellbeing by providing the resources to help faculty and staff thrive personally and professionally, and enable them to provide the highest quality of care to patients.
The multifaceted program includes peer support and operational improvements such as the use of scribes, scheduled breaks, and innovative scheduling. It also features resilience projects such as Transcendental Meditation, annual MBI surveys, community building activities, positive feedback initiatives, and most importantly, continuous faculty discussion and feedback.
