Dr. Rahul Sharma, Professor and Chairman, Department of Emergency Medicine, was recently sworn in as a member of the Society of Honorary Police Surgeons for the New York City Police Department. The society is made up of physicians with expertise in a range of specialties. Dr. Sharma was sworn in by Police Commissioner Dermot Shea during a ceremony on July 28, 2021 at One Police Plaza.
“I am honored to be able to serve as an Honorary Police Surgeon,” said Dr. Sharma. “The men and women of the NYPD serve the people of New York City every day, and it is a privilege to have this opportunity to give back to them.”
Honorary Police Surgeons are called on to assist members of the NYPD and their families when they are injured. Members are nominated by an NYPD service member, and go through an extensive vetting process. Congratulations to Dr. Sharma!
