Dr. Rahul Sharma, professor and chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and Emergency Physician in Chief at New-York Presbyterian /Weill Cornell has been elected president of the Medical Board of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital effective July 1, 2020. The term is for one year. Dr. Sharma previously served as vice president of the Medical Board this past year and has held several executive roles including serving as chief and medical director for the NYP Emergency Medical Services (EMS) enterprise and as a member of the New York Board for Medicine.
The Medical Board governs the medical staff and advises the Hospital's Board of Trustees and President and Chief Executive Officer in matters relating to patient safety and quality as well as the welfare of the medical staff. As president of the Medical Board, Dr. Sharma is an ex-officio member of the Hospital's Board of Trustees. Additionally, Dr. Sharma will oversee the credentialing process for physicians, dentists, podiatrists, and allied health staff who seek clinical privileges at NYPH. He will also be involved in NYP enterprise wide patient safety and performance improvement initiatives and holding staff accountable for complying with the NYP Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and applicable accreditation and external regulatory requirements.
NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital’s Medical Board is actively involved in reviewing hospital wide policies relating to the provision of care and operates consistent with NYP's mission, "We Put Patients First."
