Dr. Rahul Sharma, Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine, co-authored a paper published this week in New England Journal of Medicine Catalyst titled “The Future of Emergency Medicine: Emergency Care Without the Emergency Department.”
Dr. Sharma collaborated with Dr. Judd Hollander, Associate Dean for Strategic Health Initiatives at Sidney Kimmel Medical College and Professor and Vice Chair of Finance and Healthcare Enterprises in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University. The paper focuses on how the COVID-19 pandemic led healthcare systems and professionals to rethink the role of emergency departments and emergency physicians, and to create new care options that remove traditional barriers to effective emergency care.
