Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Receive Seed Grant for Collaborative Research Project with Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine

Dr. Felipe Teran and Dr. Clark Owyang, along with research partners from the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM), recently received a seed grant from the Office of Academic Integration at Cornell University to fund efforts to establish a large animal resuscitation science lab across Cornell. The grants are part of an initiative to foster multidisciplinary collaborations between the Ithaca and New York City campuses and to create new opportunities for researchers from across the institution to work together.

Dr. Teran and Dr. Owyang have partnered with veterinary anesthesiologists Dr. Manuel Martin Flores and Dr. Joaquin Araos to conduct the first in a series of lab experiments designed to establish a swine survival model of cardiac arrest and obtain pilot data for multi-PI grant applications. The team will use the unique laboratory environment of the veterinary school in Ithaca and their combined skillsets to produce a state-of-the-art animal resuscitation model. This innovative collaboration aims to develop scalable research programs with the potential for evaluation of cutting-edge resuscitative therapies, diagnostics, and biomedical devices.
