Department of Emergency Medicine Announces Leadership Appointments

 
It gives us great pleasure to announce the following leadership appointments in the Department of Emergency Medicine, effective July 1, 2022.

Dr. Michael Alfonzo appointed Assistant Director of ED Informatics & Analytics

Dr. Michael Alfonzo is an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine and clinical pediatrics. Dr. Alfonzo has played a key role in Department of Emergency Medicine IT initiatives including the ED Epic Go-Live and ongoing Epic optimization and maintenance. In his new role, he will support all departmental informatics and analytics activities under the supervision of Dr. Jean Scofi, Director of Informatics & Analytics for the Department and Assistant Medical Director of Information Services for the Weill Cornell Medicine Physician Organization. He will continue to work closely with departmental leadership and enterprise informatics leadership to advance departmental IT initiatives in operations, quality, patient safety, and telehealth by providing ongoing Epic and IT support. Dr. Alfonzo earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He completed his pediatrics residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine and his pediatric emergency medicine fellowship training at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Nicole Gerber appointed Associate Director of Clinical Services for Pediatric Emergency Medicine

Dr. Nicole Gerber is an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine and clinical pediatrics. Dr. Gerber has served as assistant director of clinical services for pediatric emergency medicine and has led several important initiatives to improve the safe emergency care for children. As associate director of clinical services for pediatric emergency medicine, Dr. Gerber will continue to work closely with ED and nursing leadership and our pediatric emergency medicine faculty to optimize operational efficiencies, improve patient safety by establishing enterprise-wide standards of care, enhance patient experience, and develop inter-departmental and institutional relationships and initiatives. She earned her medical degree at UMDNJ-RWJMS, now known as Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Dr. Gerber completed her pediatric residency and chief residency, and fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine, at NYU Langone Health-Bellevue Hospital Center.

Dr. Lynn Jiang appointed Coordinator of Research Education and Training Programs

Dr. Lynn Jiang is an instructor in clinical emergency medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. In her new role, she will help develop and guide the Department's research training and education programs and initiatives. Dr. Jiang established herself as an advocate for resident and medical student education during her tenure as Chief Resident of the NewYork-Presbyterian (NYP)/Columbia & Cornell emergency medicine residency program. She served as a resident representative on both the Resident Program Evaluation Committee and the Making Care Better Committee. She continues to participate in resident mentorship and education as a member of the NYP Emergency Medicine Residency Clinical Competency Committee, as well as overseeing the Weill Cornell Medicine/Bugando Medical Center Educational Exchange resident elective.

Dr. Daniel Lakoff appointed Associate Director of Clinical Services and Associate Director of Healthcare Leadership & Management

We are excited to welcome back Dr. Daniel Lakoff, who served as our inaugural Healthcare Leadership & Management (HLM) fellow from 2018-2020. Prior to rejoining the Department of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine, he served as Associate Director of Emergency Medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals | Harlem. In his role as associate director of clinical services, Dr. Lakoff will work to improve patient care, outcomes and experience though system-level innovation & leveraging the new and evolving technologies. He will also serve as associate director of HLM fellowship, where he will help to develop the curriculum and recruit potential fellows.

Dr. Jean Scofi appointed Director of Healthcare Leadership & Management Fellowship

Dr. Jean Scofi currently serves as the Director of Informatics & Analytics for the Department of Emergency Medicine and as an assistant professor of clinical emergency medicine. She previously served as the assistant director of the Healthcare Leadership & Management Fellowship. In her new role, Dr. Scofi will work to develop a formal fellowship curriculum and strengthen recruitment while continuing to provide education and mentorship for HLM fellows aspiring to become future emergency medicine and healthcare leaders. Dr. Scofi has five years of experience in healthcare leadership and management education, including developing orientation and on-boarding curriculums, leading patient experience and operations hackathon events, and co-leading resident focus tracks in administration at Mount Sinai, Yale, and New York Presbyterian.
