The Department of Emergency Medicine, in partnership with the Cornell Tech Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, is proud to announce a new fellowship focused on innovation. The Innovation Fellowship in Emergency Medicine will teach the skills needed for emergency medicine physicians to become clinical leaders in the digital transformation of healthcare. Fellows will be trained in all aspects of the innovation pipeline including ideation, design, intellectual property, financing, and strategic planning, and change management.
“Healthcare is poised to change rapidly with a host of new innovative tools and processes” said Dr. Peter Greenwald, Vice Chair, Clinical Strategy and Innovation and Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine. “Our new fellowship will provide emergency medicine physicians with the training needed to be leaders in this space. As medicine enters the digital age it is essential that we have clinician leadership to navigate coming changes. This fellowship will allow emergency medicine physicians to steer progress in positive directions for both their patients and for their institutions. We are thrilled to be able to combine our partnership with Cornell Tech and our department’s record in training physician-leaders to make this possible."
The one-year post-graduate, non-ACGME accredited training program will couple didactics in innovation and entrepreneurship with first-hand experience in working with early-stage companies engaged in design thinking, prototyping, navigation of regulatory processes, intellectual property rights, and business strategy. Programs and partnerships will be chosen to allow rapid exposure to each of these areas while emphasizing the direct linkage to patients and clinical realities. The fellowship will also provide unique opportunities for engagement with carefully curated projects that will maximize exposure to the clinical/innovation/tech interface.
