Weill Cornell Emergency Medicine Achieves Third Consecutive Top 15 Ranking in NIH Research Funding

Weill Cornell Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine has been recognized among the top 15 departments in the nation in the latest Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research (BRIMR) rankings of National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. This marks the third straight year the department has earned a top 15 placement.

In the 2025 report, the department ranked 13th nationwide in NIH research funding. This sustained level of support highlights the strength of the department’s research activity across areas including global health, digital innovation, geriatric emergency medicine, critical care, and simulation science.

Maintaining a top 15 ranking for three consecutive years demonstrates the department’s strong research trajectory and the meaningful contributions its investigators are making to the field. Faculty continue to lead studies aimed at improving care delivery, advancing scientific understanding, and addressing pressing challenges in emergency medicine.

“Going from unranked in 2019 to a top‑15 position for three consecutive years reflects the exceptional commitment of our faculty and research teams. This momentum demonstrates our focus on innovation and collaboration as we work to advance the science of emergency care," said Rahul Sharma, MD, MBA, Barbara and Stephen Friedman Professor and Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine.

As the department looks ahead, it remains committed to expanding its research portfolio, supporting investigators at all stages, and pursuing discoveries that improve outcomes for patients and communities.
