Wallace Carter, M.D. Elected to the American Board of Emergency Medicine's Executive Committee

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Wallace Carter, Vice Chair of Clinical & Faculty Affairs and Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine, has been elected to serve as Member-At-Large on the American Board of Emergency Medicine's (ABEM) executive committee.

Dr. Carter is a distinguished leader and educator in emergency medicine. He is renowned for his work in developing graduate medical education and residency training in emergency medicine within Weill Cornell Medicine and on the national and international level. He has held leadership positions on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Emergency Medicine Residency Review Committee (RRC). Dr. Carter sits on the Board of Directors for the ABEM, and most recently served as oral exam editor and chief examiner in 2022.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Carter has trained more than 300 emergency medicine physicians. He continues to mentor many of his graduates who have gone on to positions at prestigious institutions across the country.

ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The Executive Committee provides strategic direction on ABEM programs and initiatives and makes decisions on innovative programs and approaches to create opportunities for ABEM certified physicians.
