Please join us in congratulating Dr. Peter Greenwald on being named the recipient of the 2022 Jeanne and Herbert Siegel Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine. The award recognizes an outstanding emergency medicine faculty member who has demonstrated clinical excellence, professional achievement, innovation, and dedication to the field of Emergency Medicine. It is one of ten prizes, from the endowments of WCM Overseer Herbert J. Siegel and his wife, Jeanne, that’s awarded annually to outstanding faculty and medical students.
Dr. Greenwald is Director of Telemedicine and Associate Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He also serves as a faculty member at the Weill Cornell Medicine Center for Virtual Care. He is a national leader in the field of telemedicine and has been at the forefront of the Department of Emergency Medicine’s push to bring virtual healthcare into the mainstream. He has consistently demonstrated excellence in his clinical work and research, and in his commitment to mentoring and educating the next generation of healthcare professionals.
His many accomplishments include the implementation of WCM/NYP’s ED Express Care, Virtual Urgent Care and the Community Tele-Paramedicine programs. Dr. Greenwald also serves on several institution-wide committees including the Telehealth Clinical Steering Committee which aims to promote unified telemedicine standards.
Dr. Greenwald was instrumental in helping to position NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine as a leader in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic. He is currently collaborating on research into the evaluation of telemedicine access disparities and the ways telemedicine can improve education, access, and quality in international settings.
