Drs. Jeffrey Mayer and Meninabasi Ndaessien Named 2025 New York ACEP Unsung Heroes

The New York American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) Unsung Hero of Emergency Medicine Award is given to EM physicians who go beyond simply being the embodiment of what it means to be an EM physician. They are, among other things, stalwarts of the ED who are deeply committed to the mission of the emergency department, their colleagues, co-workers and patients.

We are pleased to announce that Drs. Jeffrey Mayer and Meninabasi Ndaessien have been named two of this year's Unsung Heroes.

Dr. Jeffrey Mayer is a graduate of George Washington University in Washington, DC. He received his M.D. degree from Temple University School of Medicine in 2006 and completed his Emergency Medicine residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA, in 2010. Dr. Mayer joined Weill Cornell Medicine in 2013. Prior to joining Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Mayer held positions as an attending physician in emergency medicine at New York Downtown Hospital (now New York Presbyterian-Lower Manhattan Hospital) and at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Dr. Mayer has special interests in sports medicine, quality assurance/interdepartmental relations, disaster medicine, and medical education.

Dr. Meninabasi Ndaessien is an emergency medicine physician who currently practices at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital. She earned her degree in osteopathic medicine from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in Henderson, Nevada and completed her residency training in emergency medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital, Bronx, NY. In addition, she holds an appointment as an instructor in medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College. Prior to joining New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, Dr. Ndaessien was an attending physician in emergency medicine at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville, New York. Her interests outside of medicine include volunteering, travelling and exploring other cultures.

Congratulations to Dr. Mayer and Dr. Ndaessien on this well-deserved recognition.
