Please join us in congratulating Dr. Shari L. Platt on her promotion to Professor of Clinical Emergency Medicine. She is the first female faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine to accomplish this milestone.
Dr. Platt is the Vice Chair of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Emergency Medicine, and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine (NYP/WCM).
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Platt earned her medical degree at the State University of New York (SUNY) Downstate Health Sciences University in Brooklyn. She completed her residency in pediatrics at New York Hospital and a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at New York University School of Medicine/Bellevue Hospital Center.
Over the past 20 years, Dr. Platt has served as the clinical and academic leader of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at NYP/WCM and expanded pediatric emergency services to NYP/Lower Manhattan Hospital. She has promoted a culture of professionalism, quality improvement, safety, and physician wellness, to ensure clinical excellence in the emergency care for children and families. She has received several leadership and patient centered care awards, including the Herbert J. Siegel Award for Excellence in Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Platt is a dedicated educator and mentor for medical students, residents, fellows and faculty. She was influential in the development and growth of the world-renowned Simulation Education program at NYP/WCM in the Departments of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine. She established the Pediatric Emergency Telemedicine Program and has contributed to many scientific and scholarly products throughout her career. She is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine Section and a member of the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. In 2021, she was appointed Vice Chair-Elect of the AAP Section on Emergency Medicine (SOEM) Pediatric Emergency Medicine North American Division Chiefs (PEMNAC) Subcommittee. Dr. Platt played an integral role in overseeing the pediatric emergency response to COVID-19 and collaborated with institutional, regional, and national leaders throughout the pandemic.
Dr. Platt has dedicated her career to promote clinical excellence, innovation, science and scholarship, diversity and inclusion, and advocacy, to further the field of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
