Dr. Pon-Hsiu Yeh Selected as Faculty Scholar in Health Equity

Please join me in congratulating Dr. Pon-Hsiu Yeh on her selection to the third cohort of the Faculty Scholars in Health Equity, an initiative of the Cornell Center for Health Equity (CCHEq) and the Diversity Center of Excellence.

Dr. Yeh completed her undergraduate training at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in International Health Policy at the London School of Economics, and her medical degree at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio. Prior to matriculating to medical school, Dr. Yeh was a Fellow at the Harvard Initiative for Global Health. During this time, she developed her passion for combining clinical observations and data analysis for public health policy change. She maintained her interest in health policy, healthcare disparities, and quality of healthcare throughout her emergency medicine residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

Dr. Yeh is actively involved in multiple diversity initiatives within NewYork-Presbyterian, as well as nationally. At Lower Manhattan Hospital, she identified the need to better understand ED utilization among Chinese Americans. She received a Research Scholar’s Grant from the Cornell Center for Health Equity in the fall of 2019 to assist in the pursuit of this important and much needed research. Her innovative work has identified significant disparities in ED outcomes for Chinese Americans. She has presented these results at the Lower Manhattan Interdepartmental Medicine Conference and the Cornell Center for Health Equity Seminar.

Dr. Yeh also demonstrates her commitment to diversity, inclusiveness, and belonging for all patients and staff through education as a member of our DiversifiED committee. Her educational work includes formal mentoring of premedical students through the DiversifiED Apprenticeship Program and involvement with resident education through theme days. On a national level, Dr. Yeh is an active contributor to the ACEP Diversity Inclusion and Health Equity Section.
