Dr. David Bodnar, attending physician in the Emergency Department, is the 2018 NYP-Lower Manhattan Hospital Physician of the Year.
The annual award, presented by the Nursing Department, celebrates collegiality, collaboration and the physician’s contributions to nursing practice across NYP’s various campuses. The Award recognizes physicians, fellows, housestaff, and medical students who show competence and compassion in the clinical setting, and work together with nurses to attain the highest standards of quality patient care.
Dr. Bodnar was chosen for, among other things, his consistent positive demeanor with patients; his sincere appreciation for nursing; his ability to foster easy collaboration and communication among the team; and his willingness to lead by example, remaining calm and respectful, especially during high-stress situations.
Further, Dr. David Bodnar is truly a pleasure to work with. Throughout his career at NYP Lower Manhattan, he has embodied the Respect Credo. He takes the time to discuss each patient with the nurse so that a well-defined, individualized plan of care is developed. Additionally, he always makes time to sit with patients and their family members to discuss all possible treatment options, while aligning those options with the patient’s known wishes. Recognizing the often unpredictable nature of the emergency room, Dr. Bodnar advocates for both patient and staff safety. During team huddles, Dr. Bodnar always shares his expertise and provides feedback to enhance workflow, patient care, and collaboration.
Among his colleagues, Dr. Bodnar is considered a role model who transcends NewYork-Presbyterian’s core values, making him so deserving of this prestigious award.
Thank you Dr. Bodnar for all you do every day.
