Department of Emergency Medicine Issues Statement on Social Injustice

The Department of Emergency Medicine joins with President Martha Pollack, Dean Augustine Choi, the Weill Cornell Medicine and NYP family, and our colleagues throughout the United States in expressing our profound sadness for the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbrey, and countless others in our African American community. These acts highlight the racial inequities and injustices that continue to plague our nation. While these senseless acts of violence have left countless Americans hurt, angry, and frustrated, they present an opportunity for personal reflection and identification of meaningful approaches to alleviating racism and inequality in our society. These ideals are etched in the mission of DiversifiED, the Department of Emergency Medicine Committee of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

We are committed to providing outstanding emergency care to everyone who walks through our doors. We stand in solidarity with people of color, whether they be our patients or our colleagues. We are strong together, undivided, and dedicated to the inclusion of all. Our hearts go out to those who have been impacted by the racial tensions in our society today. We are here to support our community and our colleagues during these difficult times.
